LaCie Big Disk Data Recovery

LaCie Big Disk Data Recovery

Lacie drives have been around for years, they are generally a favourite with Graphic designers and Video Editors and Musicians alike.

This is mainly to do with the Firewire 800, 400 and USB interfaces, ideal for an Apple mac.

The LaCie Big Disk can store a huge amount of data and come in bigger capacities.

These drives are Raid 0 and data access is very fast,

Raid 0 means half of the file is one drive and the other half on the other, so if one fails nothing is accessible.

Whilst this is great for fast access for video editing, but in terms of long term data storage a really bad idea.

We’ve recovered data from failed and corrupted Lacie Big Disks many times over the years.

Signs of a failing drive are:

Taking an unusually long time to come up on the desktop, or My computer

Clicking or Buzzing noises,

Strange file corruption occurring within documents , ie you Word asks you for the character or text encoding on a document.

Taking a long time to navigate folders

NTFS disk Errors is the event log

Signs that is has failed are:

Not appearing in finder (apple mac) drive will not mount or My computer

Clicking or Buzzing noises coming from the hard drive when connected.

You get a message ‘The disk in drive F is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?’  (don’t, just unplug it and give us a call)

You get a message on your Apple Mac ‘cannot initialize disk’

There are many things that can go wrong from File System Corruption,Seized Spindles, Head failure, Firmware failure, Media Damage.
